Carved lines and glaze runs
Glazes are layered over carved lines to create reactions between the glazes and to encourage variation across the surface. In the final firing, Over many hours, the work is brought to over 2200F where the glazes melt and react with each other. This technique allows the piece to appear as though the glaze is still liquid but the outcome is only speculation until it cools from the final firing. |

Impressions from life
Each nature painting contains an impression made from an actual plant from my adventures in the woods. Some are more realistic but others may not look the way they started. You might find things as varied as "the tomato plants we grew in the park garden" or "that time I dug evergreen ferns out of the snow." These are a celebration of time and place. A connection to our world. And a call to take notice of beauty even in the smallest and most common of places. |
